Men and their war games...

There is nothing quite so off-putting as to leave your peaceful office, full of radiant afternoon light, and good conversation, to see scads of fatigue-clad men getting ready to get their war on. It is really disturbing that there should be a military office right behind our peace-loving literary enclave, and even more so that it should be a part of the university community, and horrors! sharing bike parking, their hate contaminated bicycles rubbing handle bars and pedals with ours...

The worst thing, I think, it that there were some women too. Truly dismal, but not enough to ruin an otherwise marvelous and productive day.

But... but...feeling compelled to respond... what would any community be without diversity of opinion?

And while fatigues may be representational of politics we don't agree with, not everyone wearing them is an enemy of peace and education. Who's to say that those military types didn't have to join up to have access to "literary enclaves" and higher education at all? Or escape "hate contaminated" streets or households?

And at the risk of sounding male, who's to say peace would reign if women were in charge? (Perhaps we should query Margaret Thatcher about her motherly little Falklands War.)

Oh that... don't you know (Jeff? did you finally decide to "right" me?;) that everyone has to agree with my opinion?!!! Right. Very true, diversity of opinion is of utmost importance and in fact poor little Republicans are feeling less and less wanted on these horrible liberal, free-thinking, campuses. No. In all seriousness, I whole-heartedly agree that we should always be respectful of other's life-choices, unfortunately (and I think that there was a funny comic I read a while back about the failure of the democratic party) when there is a monolithic brute that doesn't care about steamrolling those who respect other's opinions, there is a decided lack of "democracy" and the game just don't work.

Again, I agree completely. It is truly depressing that those who are overwhelmingly the fodder for this and other ("democratic") administration's wars are by far the most disenfranchised (and the most hopeful of the upward mobility that is ultimately denied them) members of our society.

They're the Malvinas to you, buster... (bustress?) -- and let's not forget dear ol' Condoleeza...

Hey, I can't fix the world, all I can do is make pithy commentary about shit that creeps me out.. and there is nothing as creepy as big bulky anger-exuding men, in the half-light, on _my_ lonely bike path...
