interesting italian idiom issues
Thumbing through an Italian method book from several years ago when I tried to teach myself (but I am a very bad autodidactic learner, needing the feedback of a dialogue) and ultimately failed because I could read through all the lessons and understand, but none of it stuck because I didn't have to actually *learn* anything, just conjecture...
Anyhow, even I find myself unbearably pesada sometimes, and, I might mention, ridiculously enslaved to my own hormones (the easiest most "economic" explanation is usually the best... Eco was right, too much paranoid reading on my part... I am already feeling less depressed:), so I thought I would, now that I have finished the school year, ( and yes, I succumbed and fed my cherubs ,aka. monkeys, pan dulce on our last day of review) learn something that I don't have to... hence the perusal of my bookshelves for something mindless and fun to do.
Short list of very silly things to ponder, now that my arranque de melodrama has subsided... no vale la pena being sad :)
letto it seems is both a bed and the past participle for read. Curious. Reading in bed, writing in bed? Much better than leche en el lecho, unless of course... which leads me to...
pena and penna = pain and pen, or a pen that causes pain? la penna, la spada? plunging deep into, well, whatever it is that one is going to plunge into...
and of course we can't forget to exchange a letter here or there having our penna (or our pena) in the letto...
piangere (to weep) turns to piacere (pleasure) or vice versa?
Foolish girl indeed. But what can one do if not linger with lingue, or long with langues?
